Minneapolis · Handmade in small batches

Sweet surprises you won't find in the ordinary candy aisle.

Chromavale makes hard candy and lollipops the way a printmaker makes a plate: colors layered on purpose, patterns built to be looked at twice, and flavors that make you stop and guess what you just tasted.

We work by inquiry rather than online checkout, so colors, quantities and packaging are confirmed with a person before anything is made.

Can you guess the flavor on your first taste?

Pattern before flavor

Every design starts as a color study — cane work, ribbons or mosaic — long before the recipe is tuned.

Made one batch at a time

Small runs, poured and shaped by hand. No two pieces come out of the same tray looking identical.

Built to be given

Pieces are chosen for how they look in the box, because a candy gift is looked at before it is eaten.

What we make

Color you notice. Flavor you argue about.

Our work sits somewhere between confectionery and craft. We pour sugar into designs borrowed from textiles, stained glass and night skies — deep navy spirals, ribbon bands of coral and gold, a mosaic lollipop built from dozens of small geometric pieces.

The colors are the invitation. The flavor is the part we enjoy talking about, because most people have a confident guess after the first taste and a different answer by the second.

There are ten designs in the collection right now, from single lollipops to jewel-size drops. Some are elegant enough for a dinner party favor. Some are frankly playful. All of them are made to be unwrapped slowly.

Featured creations

A first look at a few pieces from the collection. Each card links straight into the inquiry form with that candy already selected, so you can ask about the exact design that caught your eye.

Swirl series

Nebula Drift Lollipop

Deep navy and violet spiral inward toward a pearlescent center, with faint gold flecks that appear and disappear as you turn the candy in the light.

Flavor guess: Built around dark berry and citrus zest, with a tart edge that keeps it from tasting flat.

Ribbon-shaped hard candy lollipop striped in burnt orange, coral, rose pink and golden yellow on a cream ceramic plate

Ribbon series

Sundown Ribbon Pop

A lollipop poured as flowing ribbons rather than a disc, moving from burnt orange through coral and rose into a warm gold.

Flavor guess: Warm stone fruit and soft citrus, finishing bright rather than sugary.

Round lollipop with crisp diagonal bands of coral, tangerine, lemon, mint, teal and violet translucent candy

Layered series

Prism Ladder Lollipop

Crisp diagonal bands stacked like rungs — coral, tangerine, lemon, mint, teal, violet — with clean edges and a glassy shine.

Flavor guess: Each band is meant to be tasted on its own; together they read as a bright fruit punch.

Two lavender and cream spiral hard candies in soft purple, dusty mauve and vanilla cream tones on ivory linen

Swirl series

Lavender Halo Swirls

Soft purple, dusty mauve and vanilla cream wound into quiet spirals. The calmest design in the collection and the most requested for gifts.

Flavor guess: Floral lavender over cream soda, gentle rather than soapy.

Round turquoise, cobalt blue and white swirled lollipop with wave-like ripples on an ivory ceramic dish

Swirl series

Tidewater Ripple Pop

Turquoise, cobalt and white caught mid-wave, with the swirl tightened near the edge so the pattern looks like a tide line.

Flavor guess: Cool blue raspberry and lime zest — sharp, clean, and surprisingly grown-up.

Large round lollipop assembled from a mosaic of plum, teal, saffron, ivory, berry and olive candy triangles

Mosaic series

Mosaic Riddle Lollipop

Dozens of small geometric pieces fused into one round face — plum, teal, saffron, ivory, berry and olive, with visible seams between them.

Flavor guess: Deliberately layered so the first taste and the last are not the same. Guess out loud.

The craft

Handmade means small differences, not mistakes

Pulled, folded and cut candy is a physical process. Colors travel slightly further into a cane on one batch than the next. A swirl tightens a little differently when the room is warm. Pieces cool at their own pace, which is why the edges of a handmade drop are rarely identical to their neighbor.

We treat that as part of the object rather than a defect. When you open a box, you can see the hand that shaped it — a slightly softer ribbon, a mosaic seam that wandered a millimeter, a swirl that ended off-center.

How inquiries work

Four steps, no shopping cart

We keep this deliberately simple. You tell us what you are hoping for, we reply with what is realistic, and nothing is charged or promised until you have it in writing.

  1. Send the inquiry

Use the form to pick designs, share a quantity and describe the occasion. Tell us what you are unsure about — that helps.

  2. We confirm details

You receive a separate reply with flavor and allergen information, availability, pricing and packaging options.

  3. You approve

Nothing moves forward until you confirm the written details. An inquiry on its own is never treated as an order.

  4. We make the candy

Production is scheduled around the agreed timing, and any change to that schedule is communicated before it happens.

Please note: we do not publish ingredient lists or allergen details on this website, because formulations and supplier information change. Ask us for verified, current information for the specific candy you are considering — especially if anyone receiving the gift has a food allergy or dietary restriction.

Gifting

Occasions that suit a small, memorable gift

Candy is an easy thing to give badly and a lovely thing to give well. These are the situations where a handful of carefully chosen pieces tends to land better than something bigger.

Host gifts

A small box of two or three designs, chosen so the colors look intentional next to each other. Enough to be generous, small enough to carry.

Birthdays

A single dramatic lollipop with a name written on the tag, or a mixed set for someone who likes things they have not seen before.

Holidays

Warm amber and caramel tones for late autumn, deep navy and violet for winter, bright ribbons when the days are getting longer.

Thank-yous

For teachers, neighbors, colleagues who covered for you. Pretty on a desk, no vase required, no follow-up care.

Office celebrations

Individually wrapped pieces travel better than a shared box and let people take one when they drift past the table.

Just-because

One lollipop in a folded paper wrapper and a two-line note. Some of the best gifts are honestly that small.

Questions

A few things people ask before writing in

Is there a minimum order?

There is no published minimum, because the answer depends on the design and the timing. Tell us the quantity you have in mind — including small ones — and we will tell you honestly what is practical.

Can you match colors to an event or a logo?

Often, yes, within our palettes and without reproducing a trademark you do not own or have permission to use. Send the color or branding reference in your message and we will say what is realistic before you commit.

How do I ask about ingredients and allergens?

Reply to any inquiry and ask. We will share current, verified product information for the specific candy you are considering. We do not claim that any of our candy is allergen-free.

What happens after I submit the form?

Your inquiry is stored and delivered to our inbox. You will receive a separate reply with details, availability and pricing. Until that reply arrives and you confirm it, treat your inquiry as a question, not an order.

Tell us what you are imagining

A wedding favor, a thank-you for a neighbor, forty pieces for an office party, or one lollipop because it made you smile. Write it down in a couple of sentences and we will reply with real information.
